Central and strategic, the BioAlps cluster is situated at the geographical, technological and economic crossroads of European markets. Real and virtual access to other countries is easy, facilitating quick and easy exchange and collaboration between teams.

A number of sophisticated science parks and incubators in the BioAlps cluster foster the development of highly innovative start-up companies. These science parks and incubators provide state-of-the-art laboratory equipment, facilities and resources: the Swiss Innovation Park Network Western Switzerland ( SIP West), the Foundation The Ark in the canton of Valais, the EPFL Innovation Park of EPFL, Biopole and Y-Parc in the canton of Vaud, the Neode Science and Technology Park in the canton of Neuchâtel and Innodel and Créapole in the canton of Jura, BlueFactoryLe Vivier ,and Marly Innovation Center in canton of Fribourg, Technopark (TEAG) in the canton of Berne. In Geneva, sites such as Campus BiotechFongit and Eclosion also offer state-of-the-art facilities.

The region is home to many organisations in the domains of technology, media and telecommunications, with institutions such as the CERN and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) being major centres of competence with different business links. Furthermore, there is a multitude of non-governmental organisations in the area, including Nobel prize-winner Médecins sans frontières.

About fifty zones of development, identified by the cantonal governments as having priority, offer made-to-measure benefits in support of enterprises that start an activity, to help them be more efficient or to strengthen their business relations. The region offers plenty of ground, commercial and industrial buildings and private housing for families, as well as two World Trade Centers, in Lausanne and Geneva.

State-of-the-art technologies allow companies fast and reliable access to global information networks. Western Switzerland has a first class telecommunications network and a fibre optic network that is among the densest in the world. More than 95% of the region has access to ISDN (Swissnet) while the larger agglomerations also have access to ATM high bandwidth networks. 95% of buildings in urban areas are connected to high-capacity networks.

There are multiple possibilities for meetings and promotion with many congress centres and exhibition grounds in the region. Whether it is for basic or applied science, international congresses take place here on a regular basis, bringing the latest discoveries and theories to the region and facilitating contact and exchange.
