There is a rich fabric of opportunities for entrepreneurs and experienced managers alike to learn and obtain coaching in creating companies, defining business strategies and expanding markets. The many structures within the BioAlps cluster provide services tailored to each need.
VentureLab is a programme of the Swiss Innovation Agency (Commission for Technology and Innovation, CTI), which organises training modules based on practical examples to encourage the creation of high tech and biotech start-ups. Both CTI and VentureLab have faculties of experienced coaches, entrepreneurs and experts in their own fields, all of whom are at the disposal of the community within the BioAlps cluster. Fongit and Eclosion in Geneva are both incubators that can assist in the set-up of companies and further coaching. In Lausanne, the Parc Scientifique (PSE) hosts a number of different groups that coach entrepreneurs to create companies.
Company coaching and growth
Initiatives such as the Fondation d'Aide aux Entreprises and the FONDETEC, both based in Geneva, assist locally-based companies both financially and in coaching services to create, restructure and reorient activities. In the Valais, Cimark assists start-ups, while in Bern innoBE fosters growth of start-ups.
Financed by both state and private money, GENILEM has a network that assists companies to grow from project to profit. When GENILEM selects a project to support, the organisation provides monthly coaching free of charge for three years. Currently, 90% of the companies under the GENILEM aegis are sustainable and developing new markets. Platinn (previously called the CCSO network) coaches companies in optimisation and innovation. In particular, Platinn offers support to companies needing to either refine their management and strategy in turbulent times or to diversify and reorient the company’s activities.
