Western Switzerland and the Rhône-Alpes region unite to reaffirm the importance of the life sciences and the changes in the sector

International business conference
34 hours of intense partnering opportunities

Bioconvergence constitutes the backdrop for BioSquare, on February 1 and 2, 2010, where innovators,
entrepreneurs and industry representatives will meet.

As Bernadette Guagliata, CEO of BioSquare, emphasises, “The conference returns to Switzerland with a new format and positioning, to better fulfill its role as an accelerator for partnering and to adapt to the profound changes occurring in the life sciences overall. Over two intense days, BioSquare will bring together all the major actors in bioconvergence, innovation and finance in Geneva, at the heart of one of the main financial centres in the world. We are launching two new initiatives in 2010: thanks to our network, we have identified innovative young companies in countries and regions with a high bio-industry potential (Israel, Scandinavia, China, India) and we are bringing them to BioSquare. We are also creating a "Corridor of Innovation", which will provide direct meetings between researchers, who bring projects to the table, and industry representatives, who contribute their savoir-faire.”

A transversal approach which is slowly taking shape, and which BioSquare 2010 enhances, offers all the
players in the field the opportunity to meet the right interlocutors and the right competencies with a view to partnership. Quite a number of visionary decision makers, both from the industry and from academia, will attend. Steven Burrill, from the eponymous company, will share his vision of the evolution of the health care sector and what future repercussions this might entail, both from an investment angle and from the point of view of how the sector is structured. Also attending will be the industrialists Elmar Schnee, CEO, Merck Serono, Paul Stoffels, Global Head of Research and Development, Johnson & Johnson, and Chris Viehbacher, CEO of Sanofi-Aventis, who have all put into place ambitious strategies for their respective companies. Patrick Aebischer, President of the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), and Pierre Spierer, Vice-rector of the University of Geneva, will present the contributions which research brings to the future of the health care sector. Beyond these key personalities, specialists in regulation and intellectual property will present the framework within which the life sciences sector will most certainly have to work in future.
