Training

In 2000, a crucial step in the development of the Institutions occurred: Lausanne's choice of postgraduate education was diversified, amounting now to 33 training courses, from Chemical Criminology to Health Care Management. These courses are largely in the Lausanne-Geneva and the West Switzerland University Coordination axis. As a consequence, 12 postgraduate courses are offered by the Universities of Lausanne and of Geneva, including a postgraduate diploma course in Bio-computing, commissioned in the fall of 2000-2001.

Early in the school year 2000-2001, the higher education diploma in Hospital Pharmacy was converted into a university postgraduate diploma on an applied field, while the Systematics and Biodiversity Management diploma was resumed.

New diplomas, such as Language Sciences and Human Ecology, were also introduced. In collaboration with the EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology), and the University of Berne, the University of Lausanne inaugurated in spring 2000 a Degree in Politics of Higher Education and Research. Also, since the fall of 2000, Lausanne offers a postgraduate diploma in Clinical Psycho sociology.

Set up by the Board of Education with the support from the administration of the State of Vaud, the Center for Education and Training Technologies, CenTEF, has been operational since January 2000. Its objectives are to endorse, direct and coordinate flexible and remote learning projects, integrating new technologies, and to train professors and assistants keen to grasp new learning techniques, in order to evaluate the impact of NTIC use on academic training.

Created with the participation from the Computer Center at the University of Lausanne and supplied through a joint effort of the Swiss Universities, EOL (Electronic Open Library) provides a straightforward and user-friendly way of organizing cooperative working, compiling courses that associate more than one lecturer, providing follow-up and management of information flows, remote editing of electronic documents, etc. Some of the projects initiated with the support of CenTEF include:
