The Faculty of Biology and Medicine combines two disciplines which share a common interest for life sciences and offers two complementary approaches and cultures; biology considers nature in all its forms and targets its academic activities on basic research whereas medicine sees the human being in its globality (healthy, physically or psychologically ill) and directs its activities towards health care and clinical research. The Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM) teaches both biology and medicine curricula. Medical education is conducted in tight collaboration with the University Hospitals of Lausanne (CHUV). The FBM comprises about 180 tenured Professors and about 200 other Faculty members. The Faculty of Biology of Medicine is composed of three schools:
