With its seven faculties and 2,200 Faculty members, researchers and scientific collaborators, the University of Lausanne (UNIL) offers a wide range of high quality undergraduate and post-graduate courses. The student population now stands at about 10,000, two thousand of whom have been attracted from abroad (86 different nationalities). The University of Lausanne is an active and internationally recognised centre of research where more than 100 million Swiss francs are annually invested in projects developed by 125 different research teams. The interactive database "UniScience(s)" contains descriptions of the university teaching and research units, including details of any special techniques or equipment used. The University of Lausanne welcomes industrial partnerships and maintains in collaboration with the University Hospital (CHUV) a Technology Transfer Office. Two business parks close to the University's research laboratories, and the proximity with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) create opportunities for collaboration with companies wishing to be integrated within the dynamic Lausanne area. Up-to-date, well-equipped, and at the forefront of the latest technological developments the University of Lausanne constitutes an ideal centre for an exchange of ideas leading to intellectual, scientific, and economic progress. THE NEW FACULTY OF BIOLOGY AND MEDICINE The Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM) of the University of Lausanne was created in October 2003 from a common will of the institution biologists and physicians to face present challenges in current life sciences:
To carry out its mission of transmitting and developing knowledge in the fields of biology and medicine, the Faculty works in close collaboration with other academic institutions such as the University Hospitals of Lausanne (CHUV), the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), the Swiss Institute of Experimental Research on Cancer (ISREC), the Ludwig Institute of Cancer Research, and the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics. |
