BioAlps go to BIO2002

What is BIO?

The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) hosts every year the world's largest biotechnology convention attracting participants from around the world, working for industry, academic institutions, and economic and promotional entities alike. The biotechnology convention includes workshops on various aspects of biotechnology (such as scientific presentations, regulation, finance, marketing), as well as investment forums, technology transfer sessions, and numerous other opportunities for networking.

BIO2002 will take place from the 9thof June to the 12thof June in Toronto, Canada

Which theme for this edition?

The theme for BIO 2002 reflects two important concepts as we proceed into the new century. 'Life Advances' ('La vie Avance') communicates both the incredible achievements in new knowledge, new processes, and new products as we begin this century, and the continued promise of even greater achievements in the years to come.

Advances in biotechnology product development have been impressive. 2001 brought more than 20 approvals for new biotechnology-based medicines and vaccines, and new indications, including breakthrough medications for leukemia, congestive heart failure, HIV infection, pulmonary arterial hypertension and life-threatening sepsis.

As the new century progresses, we will see even greater accomplishments: Several hundred new drugs and vaccines are under development that may provide new therapies for diseases including Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, diabetes and various cancers.

Biotechnology will also play a role in cleaner manufacturing processes, which will help sustain our global environment.

Agricultural biotechnology researchers are developing enhanced crops to provide more and better nutrition to a hungry world.

Life Advances - La vie Avance - and for the thousands of us at BIO 2002, the ride into the future promises to be even more exciting and rewarding.
